Browns’ Ogbo Okoronkwo has a goal set for the 2024 season that he has never reached in his NFL career
Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

The defensive line will be a strong suit for the Cleveland Browns in 2024, as it is the anchor of a strong defensive unit.

One member of that defensive line went out and predicted that he would set a career-high in sacks.

Such success from Ogbo Okoronkwo would be big for both himself and the Browns.

"This year, I'm trying to… I'll say it, I'll speak it into existence. I'm going for double-digit sacks this year," Okoronkwo said recently, via Aaron Wilson. "That's the goal every year. I'm just gonna put in the work. I hate to say numbers, but that's what I'm looking to get."

Such a number being reached by Okoronkwo would be more than just bypassing his career high. In 2022, Okoronkwo had five sacks with the Houston Texans. Last season with the Browns, Okoronkwo had 4.5 sacks with three missed games. A season fully healthy could be huge for Okoronkwo with the Browns.

Okoronkwo is the No. 3 pass rusher for the Browns behind Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith. There is a scenario that he sees an increase in snaps this year, splitting more time with Smith. Okoronkwo played 53 percent of the snaps last year but being around 57-60 percent could be his bread and butter.

For eight games in Houston in 2022, that is all the starting experience that Okoronkwo has. When he’s been in the game as a depth rusher he has been able to be a consistent pressure.

Cleveland currently has Okoronkwo under contract for two more seasons at a team-friendly amount, so getting such a season out of him would be huge. The Browns signed him to a three-year deal worth $19 million last free agency cycle. Myles Garrett is going to get his but it is about who steps up outside of him to get after the quarterback. With how much attention Garrett draws, rushing the opposite of him has been a good opportunity for players.

Okoronkwo is 29 years old still, so there is still some juice left in the tank, especially with the usage he has had in his first five years in the NFL. With the defensive front that Cleveland has, that would be a boatload of sacks from the unit if Okoronkwo reaches his goal.
