Loma And Kambosos Separated During Intense Weigh-In
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. had to be separated during a fiery weight-in.

They face off this weekend for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title Clash. Both men are at a crossroads. Lomachenko missed out on becoming undisputed at 135 in his last bout, losing a unanimous decision to  Devin Haney. Most of the boxing community felt he had done enough to win. A teary Lomachenko never got his rematch, as Haney moved up to 140. Loma is now 36. He has stated that his fighting career is close to an end.

Kambosos also has plenty of doubters to silence. He has not hit the heights that once made him a Unified Lightweight Champion. He caused a major upset, beating Teofimo Lopez in 2021. Since that victory, his form has been far from impressive. He lost twice to Haney. Although he secured a win against Maxi Hughes in his previous bout, the majority decision was contentious. Once again, the boxing community felt Hughes should have won.

Pre-Fight Comments

“My career is almost done, of course. How many years it’s going to be, one, two, three, that’s it. But I still think I have a little bit of power. It’s a hard question [when will I retire exactly]. At this stage, every fight is hard. It’s hard to recover after fights. I don’t know what will happen with my body after this fight and that’s why I can’t give you an answer to this question [of when I will retire],” Lomachenko said

“A 100 percent Lomachenko has a lot left in the tank. But I don’t believe he has that dog inside of him anymore. I don’t think he wants it as bad as I do right now. You can never overlook a guy like Lomachenko. I’d be the biggest idiot if I were to do that. Lomachenko is an all-time great and a guy we have a lot of respect for. We are preparing for the best version of Lomachenko. Once that bell rings, the respect is out the door and it’s time to do the job,” Kambosos said

“I’m very explosive and dynamic. I fear no man. I step to the best. My resume speaks for itself. I want a tough action fight. I want a brawl. This is exciting and motivating, against a fighter I’ve admired and manifested fighting. The atmosphere is going to be incredible,” Kambosos added

Weigh-In

Both men faced off in an intense manner as they made weight. Loma weighed 134.9 pounds, while Kambosos hit the scales at 134.25 pounds. Both were separated after some words were exchanged.

“And I’m ready for a fight,” Kambosos has already told host Ben Damon after weighing in earlier on stage. Ready for a war. It’s going to be amazing. I can’t wait. Lomachenko bring it on. Victory. I’ve got nothing else to say … victory,” Kambosos stated
